krisp.ai Review – Does It Mute Background Noise Effectively?

Krisp Logo

While smartphones may accomplish great noise reduction thanks to dedicated krisp.ai on the opposite ends, desktop and laptop PCs frequently struggle with it.Let’s face it: a computer is required for a professional meeting, and there is no simple solution.I recently learned about krisp.aiand its noise-cancelling technology. They promise to provide noise suppression without the usage of specific hardware and, as a result, to employDeep Neural Network to remove noise from your talks.I’ve been putting Krisp through its paces at TechWiser, using it in every meeting to observe how it performs.

What exactly is Krisp.ai?

krisp.aiis an AI-powered noise suppression solution for macOS and Windows that almost completely eliminates noise in real time.It is compatible with over 600 apps that can collaborate with krisp.ai to provide noise-free audio.

The app stands between the hardware (mic and speaker) and the video conferencing software, removing any noise picked up by the mic before it is communicated by the video conferencing app.krisp.ai does all processing on your computer, thus no data leaves your machine, resulting in lower latency. The software package is really easy, and you may turn on and off the service with a single button.

Setup

Installing and using the app is surprisingly quick and simple.Simply download the krisp.ai package and follow the on-screen instructions.krisp.ai is compatible with both macOS and Windows. After completing the installation, you will observe that the programme lacks an application window because it does not require one.To use the Krisp app, navigate to the Menu bar on macOS or the Taskbar on Windows and look for the Krisp icon. When you find it, click on it to open a pop-up menu. The app’s interface is straightforward. You just have two options: select Speaker and select Mic Source. To enable the Noise Suppression System, simply flick the switch when you start a call on your computer.

How should Krisp be used?

If you’re on a Skype chat with your boss and there’s a lot of background noise, simply change the audio source inSkype Settings from the internal mic to krisp.ai mic to see the magic happen in real time. Not only can you reduce noise at your end, but you can also eliminate noise at the other end.For example, if your boss is at a crowded cafe, simply toggle the’mute noise’ option for speakers to see (hear) the noise reduction in real time.

krisp.aiis compatible with the majority of video conferencing apps, but it may be used with any app that allows you to select an audio source. It works perfectly with Skype, Slack, and even Audacity. To put things to the test further, I dug up some old voice-overs with dreadful background noise to see if it could filter out such noises, and to my amazement, it did eliminate all of the noise when I played audio on the VLC media player with krisp.ai as the audio device.

Testing

I put up two tests to evaluate the performance of the krisp.ai app. The first was a pre-recorded audio sample with noise. The second step is to conduct a live Skype call with background noise and echo to put the real-time noise reduction technology to the test. The first test is to parse the audio.

Krisp

The first test has me sitting in a room with an air conditioner running in the background.I created a traffic simulation by playing the sound through my phone. The audio sample was then recorded in uncompressed WAV format. The audio sample was then ran through Krisp for noise reduction. As you can see (hear), Krisp makes a significant difference. However, there is some distortion in the audio quality, which is caused in part by the re-recording procedure.

Hey, this is just a quick test to see if the Krisp App works.I’m sitting in a very quiet room, but the AC running in the background is quite loud.I’m also going to use the phone to replicate other background noises, such as traffic, while crumpling a plastic bag and dropping plastic cups on the table.Hopefully, this mic will take up all of the noises, and we’ll try to eradicate them using the Krisp App.

Krisp during a Live Skype Call, Test 2

I started a Skype call and chose Krisp mic as the source in the Settings.During the call, I toggled the noise cancellation on and off, as shown in the video below. There is a huge reduction in noise, but the voice suffers as well.Even though Krisp strives to maintain the original voice as authentic as possible, Skype compresses the audio significantly, resulting in distorted and occasionally incomprehensible speech.Krisp works well when there are less noise sources in the background, such as your dog barking, building activities outside the house, and so on.A swift brown fox leaps over the sluggish dog.

Results

I couldn’t upload the sound samples without compression, so the noise reduction in the attached movies isn’t groundbreaking. The quality of Krisp on your own PC will be far superior to what you heard in the movies above.
If I had to attribute a score to the filtered audio, it would be in the 80-90 percent range. This score is given because the noise reduction is performed in real time, the data is analysed on a computer, and the results are really outstanding. However, I believe there are some noise aspects that lead the algorithm to consume relevant data as well. The distortion in the audio samples attached can be seen (heard). You can listen to Krisp without any noise in the free version. To speak and listen without background noise, you must upgrade to the premium version, which costs $20 per month.Fortunately, Premium is available for a two-week trial period.

Should you make advantage of it?

The quick answer is yes.krisp.ai is likely the only software available right now that provides real-time noise reduction and does it for free.It produces rather consistent results, making it a formidable competitor for any new goods that provide the same function.krisp.ai is completely free to use and does not have a paywall. If you want to have noise-free chats on your computer, krisp.ai is the finest alternative.
